Eckington Summer Festival CANCELLED
As you will be aware, on Monday, the UK Government announced that Covid restrictions would not be lifted until 19th July, which obviously is not in time for our event. Whilst this does not mean necessarily that the event is prohibited from taking place, it does mean that a large number of very complicated and onerous Covid safety requirements must be met in order to proceed safely.
Therefore, it is with great sadness and disappointment that last night the Committee took the difficult decision to cancel this year's event.
The nature of the restrictions and safety requirements that go along with them is such that almost everything about our event would have to be changed, adjusted, or re-thought. The likelihood is that we would be forced to go ahead without a bar setup, and we would likely have to restrict numbers entering the field, or those congregating around performance areas, etc. That is to name but two of the compromises that would probably have had to be made.
The reality of the situation, is that our Committee do not have the numbers, nor the funds, and sadly with only 2 weeks to go, we don't have the time to implement many of these plans - and it is with that in mind, along with the safety of the attendees, the Committee, and you, the stallholders, that we felt this decision is the right one.
Obviously, it is with a great deal of disappointment that we are led to this decision, however our attention will now switch to our 2022 event, scheduled for Saturday, 2nd July 2022.
The majority of you will already have sent payment for your pitches. As such, we will be offering you one of two options. Firstly, you can roll over your payment to our 2022 event. This will guarantee you a pitch at next year's event, at the price that you have paid this year. If we decide to increase the prices, then this will not affect you if you roll forward your payment. If you wish to take this option, an email would be appreciated, however if I don't hear anything, I will assume this is what you want to do. Secondly, we can issue you with a full refund. For this, I just need an email with your bank details (account name, sort code, account number), so that I can forward it to our treasurer for the payments to be made by BACS. Alternatively, I can arrange a cheque to be drawn and sent in the post, but this will take considerably longer.
Finally, all that remains is for me to thank you all for your support, to apologise for the disappointment and any inconvenience, and to wish you all the best as we each try to navigate these difficult times, although I'm sure better times will soon be with us.
